Derby 2024

Belwood Lions Pike Derby 2024

Belwood Lions 42nd Annual Pike Derby is over!

Many thanks to all our anglers who came out to enjoy a fun and friendly competition, to our many generous sponsors who support us  - both old and new, and our volunteers, who put in many many hours to prepare for and run our Derby each year.

A wet Saturday, but a much nicer Sunday
We had a little lower registration than previous years at slightly under 500, but that certainly didn't prevent an excellent leaderboard, with about 110 fish registered.
It was great to see a large number of children and youth anglers out as well, building on our philosophy of "a tackle box instead of an xbox", encouraging our youth to experience and enjoy the great outdoors.

We had a few displays in the hall from our sponsors and had Grand River Fly Fishing and KW Bassmasters available during the Sunday period between the end of the competition and start of the Awards ceremony to keep anglers busy and interested.

As always, a lot of work, but alot of laughs and great to see some new and familiar faces.

As announced, we continue our ongoing donations annually to Groves Hospital. Last year we pledged $9,000 for a Blanket Warmer for the Groves Oncology Ward for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. This year we pledged $10,000 for a 10mm telephone for surgery. Thanks to the sponsors and the anglers, we again met our pledge.

Thank you and see you in 2025

10mm Telescope for Laproscopic Surgery selected !

Belwood Lions are are very proud to announce that after discussions with Groves Memorial Hospital, we selected a 10mm Telescope for GMCH. as our goal for this years Pike Derby ($10,000 cost). See the flyer for more information about GMCH  and Belwood Lions support towards Groves.

We sincerely thank every Pike Derby participant and every sponsor for your tremendous support in making this donation possible to help ease the comfort of all GMCH patients.

The attached photo was taken in GMCH Surgical Suite, along with some of the nurses and physicians. Unfortunately, we are unable to get a photo of the telescope as it is sterilized item and has to be sealed and ready for use in case of an emergency and could not be touched etc.. It is located on the cart beside the photo in a sealed steel box, along with some of the other sterile items.

Our next Derby will be held on May 24 & 25, 2025. Once again, with your support, the proceeds will be donated to another important community cause. We hope to see you next May.

Good fishing.
